Nissan at SEMA

| Wednesday, November 21, 2007

Nissan today revealed a stunning lineup of vehicles at the 2006 Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show in Las Vegas. Nissan will showcase seven custom Versa 5-door hatchbacks, a custom Titan truck, designer-inspired Pathfinder and Armada, and Championship-winning Nissan Motorsports Championship Off Road Racing (CORR) race trucks from Tuesday Nov. 1 through Friday Nov. 4 at the Nissan booth (Booth #33945).
“Nissan products, from our 350Z to our Maxima, Altima, Titan and other models, have always provided a performance-oriented foundation for personalization and customization, offering tremendous canvases for creative expression by our customers,” said Bill Bosley, vice president and general manager, Nissan Division. “This year’s SEMA Show is especially exciting because we’re getting a first look at what the performance aftermarket can do with our all-new 2007 Versa – and the results are stunning.”
New for the 2007 model year, the Nissan Versa represents a dynamic alternative to current entry-level hatchbacks and sedans. Built on Nissan’s proven B-platform, the stylish new Versa offers a spacious cabin with exceptional rear leg room, a high quality interior and comfortable, stress-free environment. With a starting MSRP of $12,550, the Versa hatchback features a standard 122-horsepower 1.8-liter DOHC 4-cylinder engine and a choice of three transmissions, including Nissan’s advanced Xtronic CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) that provides smooth shifting and enhanced fuel efficiency.
Versa includes with a long list of standard and available equipment, including available Intelligent Key, Bluetooth® Hands-Free Phone System, satellite radio and Rockford Fosgate-powered subwoofer.
Also on display are a Nissan Pathfinder and Armada customized by famed fashion designer Mark Ecko. Ecko gave both vehicles a hip, new design inspired by his *ecko unltd. and Cut & Sew clothing lines. In addition to the two custom vehicles, Mr. Ecko has created limited edition, co-branded hooded jackets, woven button-downs, t-shirts, leather key chains and other items that are given away at events and sold online through
www.nissan.eckounltd.com.
Proceeds from these sales will benefit Sweat Equity Enterprises (SEE), a nonprofit organization that empowers at-risk teens to learn professional design and technology skills while working behind the scenes in leading design companies.
“The Ecko Pathfinder and Armada show a level of modification previously unseen, from an unlikely source,” said Bosley. “We’re honored that SEMA participants will be able to enjoy these vehicles from Marc Ecko on with our own ‘runway show’ at the height of what would be considered the automotive industries’ fashion week.”
NISMO, the premier supplier of high-performance aftermarket parts and accessories for Nissan vehicles will exhibit a variety of NISMO performance components, accessories and apparel.
Following is a list of some of the Nissan vehicles at the 2006 SEMA Show:

M2 Motoring Versa Hatchback – “VIP Versa”

Utilizing a clean “less is more” approach to the Japanese “bippu” or VIP culture which originated with large luxury vehicles, M2 Motoring has expanded the tuning style to the all-new Nissan Versa. The “VIP Versa” features a black exterior with an Extreme Dimensions body kit and heavily tinted windows. For a more aggressive stance, this special Versa has a TEIN suspension and TSW wheels wrapped in Toyo Tires.
The VIP Versa’s interior is customized with a luxurious feel, with small details provided by Carmate’s new line of VIP executive accessories. The in-car entertainment system is powered by Memphis car audio, with several powerful component speakers and a ten-inch subwoofer.
“Keeping with the VIP theme, the M2 Motoring Versa is outfitted with no less than the best,” said Mike Ma of M2 Motoring. “With its extensive luxury touches, our Versa has been extensively modified with a painstaking attention to detail to bring the car to the next level.”

Fox Marketing Versa Hatchback

Built in a mere two weeks time and pushing an estimated 270 horsepower to the wheels, Fox Marketing’s Versa hatchback represents the tuning potential of the basic Versa package. The 1.8-liter 4-cylinder engine has been enhanced with a ZPIracing Turbo Kit with a Garrett GT28RS turbocharger, Fujita cold air intake system, ZPIracing 22x9x3 intercooler, Nitrous Express N-Tercooler sprayer, Tial blow off valve, ZPI Velocity Stack intake, ZPIracing 440cc fuel injectors, ZPIracing stainless downpipe and two-inch stainless up-pipe, ZPIracing high-flow oil pump and Tanabe Medallion Touring Exhaust.
Outside, the Fox Marketing Versa has an Impul front bumper, front lip spoiler and rear kit, all covered with BASF R-M Sapphire Blue paint. The attitude of the machine is set with 1.5-inch lower Tanabe NF210 Springs and 18x7.5 XSA-02S Work Wheels wrapped in 225/40/18 Toyo Proxes tires.
Inside, the interior is outfitted with MOMO accessories, including red Street Racer GT front seats with custom seat brackets, custom red rear seat, shift knob and boot, steering wheel and hub. Sounds are provided by a Rockford Fosgate entertainment system.
Why did Fox Marketing choose a Versa hatchback? “First of all, I’ve had a lot of experience working on Nissans and have always been impressed with the quality and performance of their products, and the Versa has a lot of built-in potential,” said Brian D. Fox, president and creative director, Fox Marketing. “I’ve been working on ‘image’ vehicles for major manufacturers for years and I know that being different is a key to success. If you want to stand out in this segment, you need Versa, not some ‘played-out’ car from other manufacturers.”
“Also, I\'m 6\'8\" and I can\'t fit in just any car, but in the Versa I cannot only drive the car but also carry my buddies and everyone is comfortable,” he continued. “Basically my message with the Fox Marketing Versa is that if you’re tall and into tuning cars, you will love this Versa just as much as I do!”

Muscle Road/Classic Soft Trim Versa Hatchback

Giving this Versa attitude is an Extreme fascia, ground effects with side air inlets, hood scoop, custom grille, fog lamps and a racy rear wing. Furthering the aggressive look and stance are 19-inch Zenetti wheels and a sport-tuned suspension. For an open-air experience, a large sunroof has been grafted into the Versa.
Inside, racing seats and a major-league in-car entertainment system keep the Muscle Road/Classic Soft Trim Versa passengers comfortable and entertained.

2K Motorsports Marketing “Green With Envy” Versa Hatchback

The most striking part of this Versa is a unique paint scheme that will truly make competitors “green with envy.” A flat black exterior highlighted by lime green and rainbow flake stripes laid down by Kaotic Kustoms makes this Versa truly one of a kind. To add to the look, a Precision grilles flat black piece replaces the stock grille.
Handling of the “Green With Envy” machine is enhanced with an Eibach Sport suspension and the car sits on flat black 18-inch Tenzo Racing wheels shod with Falken tires. A Magnaflow performance exhaust gives the Versa an aggressive sound to match its exterior.
The theme carries over into the interior, which is stitched in black and green and features Fuze gauges, green APC LED interior lighting, APC Racing pedals, APC Black Chrome fire extinguisher and a custom-painted Nitrous Express bottle.
An aggressive sound system was developed to ensure envy with a Homeless Entertainment-built 2000-watt Rockford Fosgate sound system complete with custom fiberglass subwoofer enclosure.
“We definitely believe there is growth in the B-Segment as we continue to see more people searching from more cost efficient transportation, and many of those people are ‘gear heads,’” said Kevin Kuenzie of 2K Motorsports Marketing. “We’ve not worked on a Nissan before, but we can see that Nissan is committed to the Versa platform, and with the team effort Nissan has assembled it should be very successful from sales of the Versa to aftermarket parts produced and marketed for it.”

turn3 Creative/Siphon Magazine Versa Hatchback

turn3 Creative’s “Versa Cup” project highlights the performance potential of Nissan’s Versa, creating a truly unique vehicle that captures the essence of Nissan’s motorsports history and adds a modern tuner twist. Working with Siphon magazine, a new Primedia publication focusing exclusively on the B-segment movement, turn3 has built a dual purpose street/track Versa. “Our customers have a true passion for cars and are enthusiasts in every sense of the word,” said Glenn Oyoung, President of turn3 Creative. “As the B-segment takes off we thought it was critical to show that the performance heritage of Nissan extends to all of its cars, including the Versa.”
To prepare the Versa for competition duties, turn3 removed roughly 200 lbs. of weight. For increased engine performance, the turn3/Siphon Versa features an AEM cold air intake and a DC Sports competition exhaust header with a custom exhaust. The suspension has been upgraded with a custom TEIN Super Street coil-over kit, and bringing this purpose-built machine to a halt are Hawk Performance racing brake pads and shoes. Adding style and handling prowess for the street are 17x7.5 Volk Racing CE28 forged wheels with Kumho tires, and for track duties RAYS Engineering 15-inch lightweight wheels and Kumho’s Ecsta V710 R-compound tires are used.
The turn3/Siphon Versa has the appearance of a track star, with an APR Performance carbon fiber front splitter and rear spoiler, custom front grille and lighting treatments by Five Axis, and NISMO-inspired race graphics by KTC Media Group and Spin Imaging.
The Siphon Versa’s cabin features Sparco racing seats, harnesses, steering wheel, pedals and shift knob. In addition to gauges by Defi, the Versa has a full complement of vehicle dynamics equipment by Pioneer Electronics including forward and rear-facing cameras. Rounding out the interior is a stout roll bar engineered by M1 Fabrication.

Stillen Motorsports Versa Hatchback

Stillen has built many custom Nissan vehicles and parts over the years and is a staple in the Nissan modification arena. “When we were approached by Nissan to build a Versa we had immediate interest, not just because of our relationship but because of the demographic opportunities this new segment signifies,” said John Zinn, Marketing Director, Steve Millen Sportparts. “Stillen’s product line typically caters to an affluent crowd, but we are investing heavily in the growth potential of this segment. Nissan’s efforts to escalate its cachet in the marketplace over the last five to ten years has done much to improve consumer confidence in the brand and therefore our association with the same has a similar effect on our customer base.”
The Stillen Versa features a full exterior treatment with custom paint and graphics, a Stillen urethane body kit and rear spoiler and a Street Scene Speed Grille. Pumping up horsepower is a Stillen cold air intake and exhaust kits and for even more performance the Versa received a lowered suspension, brake upgrades and 18-inch wheels with performance tires. The interior has been upgraded with more Stillen components and a powerful integrated audio system.

Roadhouse Marketing Versa Hatchback

Roadhouse Marketing has worked on Nissans for years, but the Versa is the first car in this segment they’ve taken on. “We chose the Versa because it\'s a brand new platform, it\'s surprisingly roomy, and it holds its own on the freeway even before its modified,” said Jason R. Sakurai, Managing Director, Roadhouse Marketing. “But what really works for us with Nissans is that their products are usually underrated, and they give you a big grin when you nail the throttle.”
Constructed and coordinated by International AllStars in California, the Roadhouse Versa’s suspension is enhanced with Vögtland springs with MOMO Wheels and Cooper Tires. Adding more visual appeal is an APEWorks Graphics package. Inside, the Versa’s interior has been stylized with MOMO seats, floor mats and pedals. The entertainment system is comprised by an Eclipse/Fujitsu Ten DVD/CD Player with Polk Audio Amplifiers and Speakers.
“We’re not done making modifications to our Versa,” added Sakuri. “It’s still taking shape. We don’t know where it’s going to go next, but that’s the fun of the SEMA show, isn’t it?”

The *ecko unltd. Nissan Pathfinder

Bearing in mind *ecko unltd.’s street-smart swagger, the Nissan Pathfinder customized by Marc Ecko takes a vehicle that loves to get a little dirty and gives it an “old school” twist.
Outside, the Pathfinder’s wheelwells have been smoothed, a modified grille with a highlighted Nissan badge has been fitted, and the performance SUV has been painted a custom black and grey camouflage. Inside the *ecko unltd. machine features a 1960s-style redesign featuring seamless black leather driver and passenger seats with molded wood backs and a glossy “safety orange”-painted center console.

The Cut & Sew Nissan Armada

Sophisticated, yet keeping with Cut & Sew’s fashion-forward designs, the Nissan Armada customized by Marc Ecko retains the muscularity of the Armada’s original look, while adding a dose of irreverence and edginess. The Armada’s exterior receives a cream Landau roof, laser-etched rims and “safety orange” side panels. The Armada’s interior is fitted with cream and tan calfskin with heavy contrast stitching on the steering wheel, door panels and dashboard and a briefcase-inspired glove box.

Automotive Customizers/www.4x4parts.com Titan Crew Cab

From the Nissan off-road specialists comes a Titan Crew Cab ready for the show floor and the most rugged off-road excursion. “Our company concentrates on enhancing Nissan trucks and SUVs for off-road prowess, as well as sponsoring numerous Nissan owners club events,” said Jane Miller of Automotive Customizers. “We’ve worked on multiple Nissan projects, including a Hardbody pickup, Pathfinder, Xterra and Frontier, among others, so creating a Titan project makes perfect sense. It’s a great vehicle as a starting point for modifications.”
Starting with the suspension, Automotive Customizers added their own 2.5-inch front coil lift kit, a Rancho 4-inch suspension lift kit and Bilstein 5150 rear shocks with an Air Lift rear air ride suspension. Protecting the undercarriage are Automotive Customizers\' front and rear differential skid plates. Finishing off the suspension are ProComp simulated bead lock wheels and 35-inch tires.
The Titan’s body has been enhanced with a Performance Accessories 3-inch body lift, T-Rex billet grille, an Automotive Customizers-modified ARB Front Bumper with a Mile Marker 12000-pound electric winch, Tiregate rear bumper with a Valley receiver hitch. Additional exterior touches include custom graphics, a sun visor, hood scoop and Stainless gas filler cover. An Offroad Unlimited Cargo Rack with IPF lights, a Hi-Lift jack and Off-Road axe provides the finishing touch
The already powerful 5.6-liter V8 in the Automotive Customizers’ Titan receives mild performance improvements with a Weapon-R intake with ARB Safari Snorkel and Gibson cat-back exhaust.

Sports car revival in Japan

Whether you like the looks or not, the Nissan GT-R is hot, and the Japanese flock to Nissan dealers to get their hands on one. Initial orders have already exceeded expectations by a factor of 11, totalling at 2,282! Nissan aims to sell about 200 GT-R's per month with deliveries starting early December.

The extreme interest in the GT-R has also spiked the sales of the Nissan Skyline coupe (went on sale early October) with 2,400 orders in the books while the initial projection was 200 units per month.

"It is encouraging to see that Japanese customers have been inspired by these new sports cars from Nissan," said Kaji Yoshimitsu, Marketing Director for Skyline and GT-R. 'Inspiration' is only going to increase when the GT-R wins some Super GT races.

Nissan GT-R Priced Under $68,000

| Tuesday, November 20, 2007

The Nissan GT-R will have a base price of ¥7.8 million (roughly $67,700), and pre-orders are expected to begin soon for one of the hottest new cars to hit the market. That price is nearly half the price of a new Porsche 911 Turbo.

Earlier today Nissan launched the car's new web site, http://www.gtrnissan.com. The site currently comprises mainly of a countdown clock, and some information from the prototype and concept shown off over the last six years. The site is available in English, German, Spanish, French, Italian, and, of course, Japanese

The GT-R, which makes its official debut at the Tokyo Motor Show in one months time, will be available in several different trim levels, including a base, premium, and Black Edition GT-R. No more calling this car the Skyline GT-R; Nissan is officially dropping the "Skyline." If you live in Japan, you will be able to take the car to one of 160 new Nissan High Performance Centers for repair and servicing. These sites are being created specifically to support GT-R customers.

Inside, base and premium buyers will be able to choose between black and gray. Black Edition purchasers will automatically get a black interior. Outside, six colors will be offered on the GT-R: Dark Metal Blue, Super Black, Titanium Gray, Ultimate Metal Silver, Vibrant Red, and White Pearl. Ultimate Metal Silver and White Pearl will cost a bit more.

These details will be officially released by Nissan later today.

Premium edition and Black edition GT-Rs get gunmetal Rays brand wheels surrounded by Bridgestone Potenza tires to give you an edge on the road. This available as an optional upgrade on the base edition, which comes standard with chrome Rays and Dunlop Sports tires.

A Bose sound system will let you jam comfortably in the premium GT-R, but you'll have to pay a little more to get this luxury in the base and Black levels. Also standard on the premium: an anti-theft system. No matter which model you pick up, you will have to shell out some more cash for side and SRS curtain airbags.

So if you're trying, like Nissan is, to break the Nürburgring lap record with this car, you may want to pick up those extra airbags. The GT-R's 3.8 liter twin-turbo engine, producing up to 550hp, just might kick your ass.

Global website goes live today

Nissan today started the pre-launch activities in support of the all-new GT-R, the high performance sports car to be revealed at the Tokyo Motor Show on October 24th. Central to the launch of GT-R, which will ultimately go on sale around the world, is a dedicated website that will provide all information on the car, including latest news, specifications and where to buy. The address for the website is www.gtrnissan.com and will be available in seven languages: Japanese, English, Spanish, German, French, Italian, and Dutch.

With sales due to start in Japan in December, Nissan is today also confirming the final name of the car. Previous generations of this car were known as the Skyline GT-R; the new name for this car is simply “Nissan GT-R” in all global markets. Supporting substantial early customer interest in the Nissan GT-R, the company is today making available for customers in Japan some initial details including basic specifications, colors and practical information on placing pre-orders. Prices in Japan for the Nissan GT-R will start from around 7.8 million yen.

In support of the sale of the Nissan GT-R, the company also announced today the establishment of 160 Nissan High Performance Centers in Japan. These centers have been established to provide specialist sales and servicing support for customers of the Nissan GT-R.

Nissan Skyline Coupe: In Detail (JA)

|

Driving is a joy

All eyes are on the upcoming Nissan GT-R these days, but the Skyline Coupe should not be forgotten. The Skyline range has been on the market since 1957 (when it was made by the Prince Motor Company) and known as the Nissan Skyline since 1966 when Prince and Nissan merged.

The 12th generation Skyline is based on the Skyline sedan, which was released mid 2006, but is powered by the new VQ37VHR. The 3.7 liter V6 produces 333 hp, which is 25 hp more than the VQ35VHR in the sedan, and comes equipped with a Variable Valve Event and Lift (VVEL) system. Combine that with the fully symmetrical air intakes on right and left and you achieve the following: quick acceleration response, high power, low fuel-consumption and cleaner exhaust.

The new Skyline Coupé's interior has but one target in mind, namely to make driving a joy. With an engine like the VQ37VHR, the interior has to be impeccable. The steering wheel is wrapped in parallel hand-stitched leather with magnesium paddle shifters and the interior is available in two color schemes, Fauve with real wood trim or Cool Black with aluminium trim.

Technical trickery aplenty in the new coupe and includes Intelligent Key system for enhanced theft prevention, Blind-Side Monitor system, optional RearView Mirror system, optional HDD Carwings Navigation system with touch screen and Bose audio system. Of course safety feature are well represented with all the available airbag systems installed (SRS Air Bag System, SRS Side Air Bag System, SRS Curtain Air Bag System), ABS, Electronic Braking Distribution and Brake Assist systems, Vehicle Dynamic Control, four-wheel active steering (4WAS) system and Nissan's new "pop-up engine hood" technology.

Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. today introduced the all-new Skyline coupe in Japan, a grand touring coupe designed to set new benchmarks for dynamic styling and outstanding driving performance. It is available now at Nissan dealers nationwide.

The new Skyline coupe builds on the strengths and attributes of the current Skyline sedan - attraction, sophistication and high-performance - and takes them to an even higher level. It combines dramatic styling and a refined, driver-oriented interior with the advanced performance made possible by a newly developed, innovative VVEL (Variable Valve Event and Lift) 3.7-liter V6 engine and a high-performance platform to create a vehicle that will appeal the discerning coupe buyer.

A Glamorous, Dynamic Exterior

The new Skyline coupe's seductive exterior design starts with its powerful, elegant front fender curvature, flowing silhouette and glamorous front and rear fenders. The expressive front fascia features characteristic Skyline fender lines and a low, rhythmic, wave-like hood. The sculpted, bright-finished grille and L-shaped Bi-Xenon headlights add to its commanding presence. Large wheel wells, Skyline-signature LED combination taillights and dual exhaust enhance the new Skyline coupe's high-performance appearance. A unique front bumper with matching side sill spoilers is available with Skyline 370GT Type SP and S models. Seven exterior colors are offered, including Nissan's two new colors: Vibrant Red and Luna Mare Silver.

A Highly Refined Interior, Innovative Technology

The new Skyline coupe's interior is designed with one overriding goal: to make driving a joy. The comfortable, embracing driver's position and supportive seats combine with a parallel hand-stitched, genuine leather-wrapped steering wheel and light, sturdy magnesium paddle shifters to set the stage for driving exhilaration. The stylish curves of the front seat and door trim help create a sporty elegance. Two interior color schemes are available - Fauve, with real wood trim (manufacturer option), or Cool Black, featuring real aluminum trim.

The Skyline coupe interior also offers an array of advanced technology systems, including an Intelligent Key system that electronically locks the steering, immobilizes the engine and handles other jobs according to the key ID for enhanced theft prevention. Also available is a Blind-Side Monitor system that assists the driver when pulling to a curb or parallel parking, by displaying a view of the blind areas around the front left of the vehicle. The Blind-Side Monitor is offered together (as a manufacturer option) with a RearView Monitor system, which displays images behind the vehicle through the use of a compact CCD camera.

The HDD CARWINGS navigation system (manufacturer option) now includes a touch panel for greater convenience. Besides the navigation function, it is packed with entertainment features, including the Music Box recorder/player and playback of DVDs, audio and video media, as well as Bluetooth Hands-Free features.

The Skyline coupe also offers a premium Bose audio system, which turns the cabin into a very special listening environment. The advanced Bose system, available as a manufacturer option, features top playback quality in an onboard system and includes a pair of three-way integrated speakers in the doors and four woofers in the doors and rear shelf.

Exhilarating, Exciting Performance From a New Engine and Advanced Platform

The new Skyline coupe continues to offer exceptional levels of driving performance, ride comfort, roominess and utility through use of the advanced FM (Front Mid-ship) package and FR-L platform. First utilized in the V35 Skyline, the newly enhanced FR-L platform combines a sturdy, low-vibration body structure that makes the driver feel one with the car with high performance and stability - while also satisfying safety and environmental requirements.

At the heart of the Skyline coupe's dynamic performance is the newly developed VQ37VHR engine, which responds briskly, accelerates smoothly, is fuel efficient and attains high emissions standards. The VQ37VHR represents a new generation of high-performance engines and, at 333 horsepower, is the most powerful V6 in its class. Generating 90% of maximum torque between 2,400 and 7,000 rpm, the engine power is light, smooth and easy to handle right up to the 7,500 rpm redline.

The VQ37VHR's new, advanced Variable Valve Event and Lift (VVEL) system continuously changes the angle and lift of the intake valves, depending on the degree of acceleration and speed of the engine. The fully symmetrical air intakes on right and left increase the volume of intake air and reduce pumping loss, significantly increasing responsiveness. The result is the simultaneous achievement of seemingly conflicting needs: quick acceleration response, high power, low fuel-consumption and cleaner exhaust.

The new powerplant is mated to a choice of manual or automatic transmissions. The close-ratio 6-speed manual transmission allows for quick shifting and sporty touring using a short-stroke design and triple-cone synchros for the first three gears. For ease of operation, the Skyline coupe's available full-range electronic 5-speed automatic transmission includes a standard automatic shifter plus a driver-side manual shifter. The normal "D" mode provides smooth driving, while shifting to the "DS" mode provides a sportier feel. The transmission's ASC (adaptive shift control) adds comfort by automatically selecting the best gear for cornering, downhill driving and other critical situations to suit both the driver's style and environment.

Nissan engineers maximized sturdiness and lightness in the Skyline coupe's double-wishbone front suspension and multi-link rear suspension designs to enhance stability and responsiveness, as well as driver control. The dual-flow pass shock absorbers were developed through extensive review of damping force and rebound spring criteria, helping create the Skyline coupe's smooth, refreshing ride feel while maintaining high levels of maneuvering stability.

To match braking capability to the increased engine performance, the Skyline coupe employs four-wheel aluminum-caliper opposed-piston brakes (standard on both the SP and S versions of the 370GT) - which are designed to optimize the stroke at low speed and provide secure stopping power at higher speeds. The standard 4-wheel Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) also includes Electronic Braking Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist (BA), while Intelligent Brake Assist is available as a manufacturer option. The Skyline coupe also features standard Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) and a speed-sensitive hydraulic power steering system.

Another advanced performance feature available with the new Skyline coupe is Nissan's four-wheel active steering (4WAS) system, which adjusts the steering-linked angles of front and rear wheels according to speed, making the vehicle more responsive to the driver at low and medium speeds, and stable and smooth at higher speeds. 4WAS is standard on both the SP and S versions of the 370GT.

Leading-Edge Safety and Environmental Technologies

The Skyline coupe also offers a long list of convenience, safety and environmental features, including Bi-Xenon headlights with Active AFS (Adaptive Front lighting System), door mirror with heater, flat-blade wipers, fuel efficiency gauge and reduced levels of volatile organic compound used in the cabin, which helps create better interior air quality.

Standard safety equipment includes rigid, safe Zone Body construction, driver and front passenger SRS Air Bag System, driver and front passenger SRS Side Air Bag System, SRS Curtain Air Bag System, Active Front Head Restraints and three-point ELR rear seat belts. Emergency Brake Operated Pre-crash Front Seat Belts are optionally available.

The Skyline coupe body has been designed to offer greater pedestrian protection, including the application of Nissan's new "pop-up engine hood" technology. When sensors embedded in the front bumper detect an impact with a pedestrian, the system's control unit determines if the hood needs to be instantly raised. If deemed necessary, the control unit activates a pyrotechnic actuator that raises the rear edge of the hood, creating a larger, protective buffer space between the hood and hard engine components underneath. This helps cushion the impact to the pedestrian's head if it collides with the hood.

From an environmental standpoint, all Skyline coupe models are certified as SU-LEVs, meeting 2005 standards to cut emissions by 75%. In addition, over 95% of the vehicle is recyclable (based on definitions of recyclables for new cars and calculation guidelines by the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association, 1998).

Models and Sales Target

The new Skyline coupe is available in four models, each equipped with the new 3.7-liter VVEL V6: 370GT, 370GT Type P, 370GT Type S and 370GT Type SP. Target sales are 200 units per month.

Nissan GT-R Officially Revealed

| Wednesday, November 14, 2007

Nissan Motor Co., Ltd., today announced the launch of the Nissan GT-R, a new multi-dimensional performance machine that lives up to the concept of "an ultimate supercar for anyone, anywhere, at anytime". The Nissan GT-R features a newly developed Premium Midship package, including the world's first independent transaxle 4WD developed independently by Nissan. The Nissan GT-R will be available in Japan mainly through Nissan High Performance Centers nationwide from December 6th.

The Nissan GT-R was developed with a new understanding and appreciation of the Earth's natural forces – gravity, inertial force and aerodynamics – and translates those forces into a completely new design, maximizing tire grip and airflow.

Basic vehicle dynamics and integration with the driver have also been examined, resulting in new componentry and creating a Human-Machine Interface (HMI) never seen before in the marketplace. All of these theories have been integrated to balance "speed and efficiency," "high-output with environmental consideration" and "high performance and safety."

Taking these factors into account, Nissan created the all-new Nissan GT-R, which offers advanced high performance for secure and enjoyable driving by minimizing the effects of climatic, road condition or driving technique limitations. The Nissan GT-R offers ultimate performance for virtually every driving situation – whether it be the Nurburgring circuit, to snow, rain or urban areas – all manageable by the GT-R driver through advanced technology and driving dynamics.

The Nissan GT-R's unique characteristics are instilled not just in the vehicle's design, but also through a specialized production process. Carbon fiber, aluminum and steel components are assembled with a special high-precision process, which includes a series of vibration tests. Engines and transmissions are assembled by a single craftsman in a "clean room" environment and upon completion, every GT-R undergoes a battery of comprehensive tests to ensure the proper operation of all vehicle components.

To properly support the all-new GT-R, Nissan has established special Nissan High Performance Centers, where all certified advisors and technicians have received extensive training. Total support for the GT-R owner is offered for the first three years of ownership, including measurement and adjustment of the engine, transmission and wheel alignment after the first 1000 km, and again every 12 months, free of charge.

Packaging and Driveline Suited for a Supercar

The all-new Nissan GT-R uses a Premium Midship package, an all-new, more advanced version Front Midship (FM) package utilized on other Nissan vehicles. This new package enables the use of the world's first application of an independent transaxle 4WD system. The transaxle's layout places the dual-clutch transmission, transfer case and final drive at the rear of the vehicle (instead of the usual front location), which enables vehicle weight to be evenly distributed throughout the car. This gives the Nissan GT-R a superb front-to-rear weight balance, while enhancing leg and foot space and allowing for an optimal pedal layout.

Under the hood, the Nissan GT-R features an all-new 3.8-litre twin turbo V6 "VR38" engine, featuring plasma-sprayed bores and a special twin-turbo exhaust manifold system. A secondary air management system enables the newly designed powerplant to provide approximately 40kg/m of torque during ordinary low-rev driving, which gives an optimum air-fuel ratio for around-town efficiency and helps the Nissan GT-R meet ultra-low emission vehicle (U-LEV) standards in Japan.

The Nissan GT-R's new engine produces 480PS (353kW) at 6400rpm and maximum torque of 60kgm (588Nm) from 3200 to 5200rpm. Putting the power to the ground is an all-new GR6-type dual clutch transmission, with paddle shifting and a Borg Warner six-plate dual clutch for direct control.

Suspension duties are handled through a special Bilstein DampTronic*1 system, which utilizes all pertinent vehicle information to provide appropriate damping forces for all situations and helps maintain a high level of control for straight-line driving, cornering, and braking.

Braking is essential for a daily-driven supercar and the GT-R features large Brembo full-floating drilled rotors, low steel high stiffness brake pads and Brembo mono block six-piston front and four-piston rear calipers, which in combination minimize fade and provide stable braking. Run-flat tires, exclusively designed for use on the Nissan GT-R, balance high grip and all-weather capabilities and a comfortable ride in all driving situations. The tires are designed to maintain structure for 80km of travel at 80 km/h, while still providing an acceptable level of performance.

High-Performance Safety and Environmental Technologies

The Nissan GT-R offers a long list of safety and environmental features, including, for enhanced visibility inside and out of the vehicle, high-mounted LED stoplamps, bright LED rear combination taillights, "super wide beam" headlights, heated door mirrors and flat-blade wipers.

Standard safety equipment includes a pop-up engine hood system for enhanced pedestrian safety, driver and front passenger SRS Air Bag System, ELR front seat belts with tension reducer, front seat belts with load limiter, and three-point ELR rear seat belts. Driver and front passenger SRS Side Air Bag System and SRS Curtain Air Bag System are offered as options.

Environmental technologies include extensive work to create an U-LEV certification in Japan for the 3.8-liter twin turbo engine and reduced levels of volatile organic compound for materials used in the car.

Functional Design – High Performance Aerodynamics and Style

The Nissan GT-R's styling follows the function over form theory. Every styling aspect, from the overall design to the smallest details, is created to maximize the vehicle's driving experience – as well as suggesting GT-R's "supercar" level of performance. Utilizing advanced aerodynamics, the Nissan GT-R's aggressive styling evokes the lines of a well-trained athlete, combining strong character lines with smooth and solid areas.

The all-new GT-R's body is created with a combination of steel, carbon fiber and aluminum, providing a unique combination of stiffness and lightness. The Nissan GT-R features a low coefficient of drag of 0.27, with high front and rear downforce, which provides the GT-R with enhanced grip in all weather situations, while also enhancing fuel efficiency.

The front fenders express power and stability, while the "aero-blades" on the fenders' leading edges provide optimum airflow around the tires and along the body. The scoop in the fenders' trailing edges assists in providing front downforce and optimization of side airflow. The aggressive front end, with a large hood budge and single air intake, provides a sophisticated style as well as undisturbed airflow for power and cooling. New "super wide beam" headlights feature three additional sub-reflectors (compared to conventional lights) to give a wider spread to the illumination area.

The Nissan GT-R's large, four-passenger cabin features a sloping "aero blade canopy" roofline and curved C-pillar "sword edge," which expresses the distinctive GT-R identity, as well as facilitating air flow around the rear of the vehicle. The GT-R's hallmark four-ring taillights, efficient rear spoiler and large, integrated φ120 exhaust tips, provides the signature rear view of the GT-R, as well as optimizing airflow along the top and under the vehicle.

The high level of advanced technology is evident even in the Nissan GT-R's paint – which utilizes a "double clear coat" and "anti-chipping" process. The Nissan GT-R features Ultimate Silver as a special new color, which is painstakingly hand-polished by craftsman.

An Interior Suitable for Daily Driving or Supercar Duties

Key to the Nissan GT-R's usability as a both daily driver and a high-performance supercar is its interior, which is designed to balance functionality, a sense of ease, and comfort.

Sculpted performance bucket seats give the driver and passenger a comfortable driving experience, and soft pads are utilized on the dash in front of the passenger and doors to give an extra level of comfort and safety.

The instrument panel surrounds the driver, with all meters and multi-function meter at a uniform height to minimize the driver's head movement when traveling at high speeds. A large center-mounted tachometer, with gear display on its upper right, as well as the easy-to-read graphics of the display, gives the driver instant detailed information, essential for the performance nature of the GT-R.

Functional style is also evident in the Nissan GT-R – each meter features a dial plate design that evokes the idea of engaged gears, as well as a three-dimensional metal-like ring, suggesting the multi-dimensional performance of the GT-R. A large, metallic-framed center console features the ergonomically designed shift lever and a red "engine start" button.

Adjustability is central to the daily-driver nature of the Nissan GT-R, with a special "set-up switch" located in the center of the instrument panel. This switch enables the driver to adjust transmission shifts, shock absorbers and the Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC-R) in three settings – Normal, Comfort or R, the high-performance setting designed for the Nissan GT-R "supercar" application.

A high-speed, high-capacity CARWINGS (Japan market) navigation system, with a powerful 30GB hard disk drive, features an easy-to-use touch pad, as well as traditional navigation switches. The screen interface features not only the navigation system, but also an enriched entertainment system with a Music Box hard drive, DVD and CD player, and Bluetooth® *2 audio function.

For special use in the GT-R application, the multi-function meter also includes mechanical and driving information for safe high performance driving, including acceleration opening, brake pedal pressure, and steering angle. It also includes an "optimal gearshift map," to emphasize economical vehicle operation.

A specially designed BOSE sound system includes two forward-facing woofers in the rear center armrest area combined with traditional door speakers. All speakers are mounted in rigid aluminum die cast panels, which combined with the design of the system itself, provide sound quality suitable for a supercar.

Nissan May Bring $2,500 Car to European and US Markets

| Saturday, October 27, 2007

A Nissan priced at $2,500 that enters the Indian car market in 2010 could make its way into international markets, confirms Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn in an interview at the Tokyo Show.

Speaking to a small group of reporters in Tokyo, Ghosn raised what he sees as the big question; whether the car to be sold in India could succeed outside of the developing Indian market, being exported into mature markets, chiefly Europe, the US, Canada and Japan. The answer is Nissan don't know, citing the lack of data as a lingering question over exportation.

The new ultra-low-priced vehicle is destined to take on Tata's $2,500 car on home soil, the new Tata entering the Indian market in 2008. Ghosn confirmed that he has not signed off on using Indian motorcylcle manufacturer Bajaj Auto Ltd. to produce the new vehicle - a meeting with Bajaj executives to take place on Monday over the prospect of a collaboration.

The Nissan CEO said that frugal thinking was needed on the project, adding: “You don’t need anything in the car that is not needed by customers.” However it was acknowledged that for entry into worldwide markets, a number of changes would be neccessary. Western market regulations would neccessitate the addition of further features, such as those for meeting crash safety requirements.

Ghosn did however add that Nissan may still be able to offer the car for "around $3,000," despite the enhancements. It's all now just wishful thinking but if it can be done successfully, Nissan'll have a winner on their hands. Watch this space.

(The Nissan Cube, pictured above, is a 5 and 7-seater compact car sold in the Japanese market, which may form the conceptual if not technical basis for India's $2,500 car.)

During the live unveiling of the Nissan GT-R, CEO Carlos Ghosn made hints at Nissan running the GT-R in Japan's Super GT series. While it was pretty inevitable the GT-R would eventually be unleashed on the racetrack, it was unknown how long it would take before cars were constructed and tested. Today Nissan announced the NISMO entry of a GT-R in the GT500 class for the upcoming 2008 season. It has been four years since Nissan last ran a GT-R in this series. They have since been running V8 powered 350Zs. The Super GT GT-R's technical details will be released during a NISMO press conference in February. Since the 350Z underwent an incredible transformation when built for Super G it will be very interesting to see how the new GT-R will appear with some added diffusers and canards. Follow the jump for the official press release.

Nissan brings V8-power to Super GT

If you haven't had the opportunity to check out the Japanese Grand Touring Car Championship (JGTC), or as it's now referred to, the Super GT series, you're missing out. Supras battle NSXs, Zs and Imprezas. Lamborghinis take on Ferraris, Porsches and GT-Rs.

There are two classes GT300, for vehicles producing 300 HP, and GT500 for vehicles that are making, you guessed it, 500 HP. Both groups attack the same course at the same time, which makes for some of the greatest wheel-to-wheel touring car action in the world. Back in December of 2004, GTLIVE convinced the organizers of the JGTC to head east for an exhibition run at California Speedway in order to gauge interest in the sport Stateside. It was one Hell of a show, but at the end of the day, the sanctioning body of the JGTC didn't feel it was worth the effort to come back the following year.

Follow the jump, for more on the V8-powerd NISMO 350Z, a pic of the engine and the full press release.

We're really disappointed, now that we know that NISMO, Nissan's motorsports arm and one of the dominant teams in the JGTC Super GT series, has equipped their Z33 (Fairlady Z/350Z) with a 4.5-liter V8. The old turbo'd 3.5-liter mill was nixed to gain an advantage over a field of competitors that have made significant improvements over the past three years (the NISMO team has set the bar, winning two championships in three years).

There isn't too much information about the car, as the team has to keep much of their data under wraps, but judging by the sinister look of the new Z, they've come a long way in both aerodynamic enhancements and weight reduction. Five of these worked over Zs will compete in this year's series (starting in just over a month) and will be campaigned by HASEMI Motor Sport, Team Impul and Kondo Racing, with the remaining two being used by the NISMO team itself. However, all the teams will benefit from factory backing.

Nissan Motor Co., Ltd., today confirmed that the Nissan Livina and Grand Livina both launched this weekend in Taiwan. The Grand Livina also will be introduced in South Africa next month, followed in January 2008 by the Livina. With the introduction of the Livina series in these markets, Nissan is growing its model lineup to include the MPV and compact hatchback segments.

Both Taiwan’s Yulon Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. (YNM) and Nissan Motor Company South Africa (Proprietary) Ltd. (NSA) held kick-off events recently in support of the introduction of the Livina series, which is part of Nissan’s global product strategy to deliver models with the flexibility to meet the needs of diverse customers. As part of the strategy, the Livina series will be manufactured at several plants in Nissan’s global production network.

The three-row Nissan Grand Livina first went on sale last November in China (under the Livina Geniss brand name), followed in April by the two-row Livina. With momentum in new markets, Nissan plans to introduce this new family of global vehicles to more countries. The Grand Livina will be introduced in Malaysia later this year and in the Philippines next year. As well, the Livina will launch in Indonesia early next year. For each of those markets, the vehicles will be manufactured locally.

Nissan GT-R Sneak Appearance at Goodwood FOS

|

The Nissan GT-R has been turning heads ever since its first sighting at a small gas station in New Mexico, and now it has made a sneak appearance in the UK at the Goodwood Festival of Speed which took place last saturday.

The test car is still wearing a bra, as one NAGTROC.com reader put it, and is therefore still on schedule to make its world debut on home soil later this year.
